Where They At!?

Every page is an open road, every poem the vehicle in which the poet travels, every open mic his/her destination, for if home is where the heart is, than the stage is where we live! ~ Tre G.

Haiti
Events and Fundraisers

As most of you know right now, a terrible earthquake hit the country of Haiti this week and its people are faced with massive destruction and pain. In an attempt to raise funds for relief efforts Verbal Mayhem will be involved in a series of events with other Rutgers organizations within the next months and we are looking for both performers and donors.

-January 19th we will be tabling in the Livingston Student Center asking students and faculty for donations. We have not been given an exact time yet but know that it will last two hours and be somewhere between 10 am and 6 pm. If you are interested more details will be available later.

-January 29th HARU (Haitian Association at Rutgers University) will be having a benefit concert called Have a Heart for Haiti from 8 pm to 1 am. If you would like to perform contact chricruz@eden.rutgers.edu by January 23rd.

-February 1st we will be having a HUGE event called Creative Blend in the Multipurpose Room of the College Ave Student Center and are asking your attendance. Admission is either $3 donation to the Haitian Relief Fund or 3 canned goods for New Brunswick's own Elijah's Promise Soup Kitchen. This event will have 2 of our own Verbal Mayhem poets as well as many other talented performers, we will send you more information soon if you would like to attend.

-February 6th the NAACP will be having a Help for Haiti open mic at 7 pm. Tickets are $5 at the door and $3 in advance. For more info and to sign up contact Charney Robinson at 856 625-3126 or charneyr@eden.rutgers.edu.

These are the events we know about for now, if you are interested in taking part please let us know by e-mailing Christabel at chricruz@eden.rutgers.edu or Sean at sebattle@eden.rutgers.edu. We along with our own Truth Scribe and Audrey Augustave will be attending meetings this week to try to bring the Rutgers community and outside community in general together for this cause. Lets bring in 2010 by showing we can actively use our talents and love to help others in any way we can. Thanks and we will contact you soon if you need more information. Peace,

Christabel Cruz and Sean Battle
